Guides · Linux x64 · Release 1.3.141

Install Matrix or VisualLogic on Linux.

Both Linux packages run as headless user services and do not need a graphical desktop. Matrix installs the Matrix CLI and the Base service. VisualLogic adds Build and the Flow (DAG) browser interfaces. Both bundle Matrix 0.139.20.

1. Check the requirements.

Linux x86_64 with glibc 2.35 or newer and an active systemd user session. The installer needs curl, sha256sum, tar, zstd and systemctl; Node is included. Ubuntu 24.04 is tested. Install and run as your normal user, not with sudo.

On Ubuntu, install any missing tools and confirm the user session bus is available:

sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get install curl coreutils tar zstd systemctl --user show-environment >/dev/null

If the last command reports that the user bus is unavailable, use a normal login session with systemd user services. To keep services running after logout, an administrator can run sudo loginctl enable-linger "$USER" for the installation user.

2. Download, verify and install.

Choose one edition per machine. Both share the same installation directory and should not be installed side by side. Each command downloads the archive from the official HiCode origin, checks its SHA-256 digest, extracts it and runs the installer.

VisualLogic (full development environment)

mkdir -p "$HOME/Downloads/VisualLogic-1.3.141" cd "$HOME/Downloads/VisualLogic-1.3.141" curl -fL -o VisualLogic_1.3.141_linux_x64.tar.gz https://releases.hicode.com/core/linux-x86_64/1.3.141/VisualLogic_1.3.141_linux_x64.tar.gz printf '%s\n' '8efe700ff2831024c94c37140535f305addaa279113fedcbc3c32b0947b4467f VisualLogic_1.3.141_linux_x64.tar.gz' | sha256sum -c - tar -xzf VisualLogic_1.3.141_linux_x64.tar.gz cd VisualLogic_1.3.141_linux_x64 bash ./install.sh --dist "$PWD/linux-x64" --workspace "$HOME/Documents/VLProjects/MyProject"

Matrix (Brain or Hand)

mkdir -p "$HOME/Downloads/Matrix-1.3.141" cd "$HOME/Downloads/Matrix-1.3.141" curl -fL -o Matrix_1.3.141_linux_x64.tar.gz https://releases.hicode.com/core/linux-x86_64/1.3.141/Matrix_1.3.141_linux_x64.tar.gz printf '%s\n' '957fe0b7a7d838e17019b7e8c23ea38a3351d496ae507b9afe6533c3d2b9110e Matrix_1.3.141_linux_x64.tar.gz' | sha256sum -c - tar -xzf Matrix_1.3.141_linux_x64.tar.gz cd Matrix_1.3.141_linux_x64 bash ./install.sh --dist "$PWD/linux-x64" --workspace "$HOME/Documents/VLProjects/MyProject"

The workspace must be an absolute path. Add --no-start to install without starting the services. The installer verifies its bundled runtime, starts the services and checks their health. Digests for newer releases are listed in the verified release manifest.

3. Check the services.

Both editions start the Base service and install the visuallogic-headless command in $HOME/.local/bin.

"$HOME/.local/bin/visuallogic-headless" matrix help systemctl --user status visuallogic-base.service curl -fsS http://127.0.0.1:3510/api/health

The VisualLogic edition also starts Build (port 4000) and Flow (port 3200):

systemctl --user status visuallogic-build.service visuallogic-flow.service curl -fsS http://127.0.0.1:4000/api/health curl -fsS http://127.0.0.1:3200/api/health

On a remote server, keep these ports private and forward them over SSH from your own computer, then open http://127.0.0.1:4000 for Build or http://127.0.0.1:3200 for Flow:

ssh -L 4000:127.0.0.1:4000 -L 3200:127.0.0.1:3200 USER@SERVER

4. Connect the machine to Matrix.

Account enrollment is separate from installation. Run visuallogic-headless matrix help for the enrollment steps, then sign in with your existing HiCode account. After enrollment, visuallogic-headless matrix up refreshes the local Base configuration. The installer never rewrites your Matrix sign-in or provider credentials.

5. Stop, reinstall and diagnose.

Stop the installed edition before maintenance. To upgrade or repair, run the matching edition's install command again; your project directory and Matrix account data are kept.

# Matrix edition systemctl --user stop visuallogic-base.service # VisualLogic edition systemctl --user stop visuallogic-build.service visuallogic-flow.service visuallogic-base.service

Installation files live in ${XDG_DATA_HOME:-$HOME/.local/share}/VisualLogic and service definitions in $HOME/.config/systemd/user/. Read service logs with the command below, substituting the Build or Flow unit as needed. Never share credential files or private runtime configuration when reporting a problem.

journalctl --user -u visuallogic-base.service -n 100 --no-pager
